Woohoo! It’s graduation season! And kids of all ages are moving from one grade to the next and often one school to the next. How do we celebrate these important milestones? Should we make it a big deal? The moms share their ideas & memories!
My boys haven't reached graduation yet, so I am not sure how I will recognize them for their accomplishment. It is a huge accomplishment, so knowing myself I would buy something really nice and significant to symbolize their new journey into adulthood. I would invite our entire family so they could share in the exciting moment with us, and we would more than likely have a family get together with food, drinks and fun!

We will not celebrate high school graduation for another 4 years, but I know that will be a special time for our entire family. We don't usually regard this graduation as too big a deal, because there is still so much more preparation in life, and college is a part of it. To us, the completion of college is a moment of celebration to say - I am now ready to take on life!

When my sisters & I graduated from both high school & college, our parents always took us out for a special dinner. We went to a fancy restaurant and celebrated. Our grandparents always came with us, but since they were our only relatives, it was a more intimate party. It was always something to look forward to though.
As my oldest gets ready to graduate from high school, how to celebrate is at the top of my mind. It seems more important, because what we do will set the tradition for the rest of the kids. We have very few relatives in town so a big party doesn’t seem likely. It’s also a birthday weekend for 2 more of our kids, so at this point we plan to have a small dinner the night of graduation and leave the next day for a long weekend in La Jolla. And celebrate it all!!!

Graduations were not a big deal party-wise from college but worth a party from high school. But I think current trends of parties after KG and elementary and middle-school have diminished the big 12th year. I tried to focus on gifts for their life ahead (dorm supplies if going to college) or scrapbooks of school events.
