If we teach them respect and respect for property and respect for themselves and respect for our wishes and respect for their goals, then that is really beneficial.

Graduation

grad

Woohoo! It’s graduation season! And kids of all ages are moving from one grade to the next and often one school to the next. How do we celebrate these important milestones? Should we make it a big deal? The moms share their ideas & memories!

My boys haven't reached graduation yet, so I am not sure how I will recognize them for their accomplishment. It is a huge accomplishment, so knowing myself I would buy something really nice and significant to symbolize their new journey into adulthood. I would invite our entire family so they could share in the exciting moment with us, and we would more than likely have a family get together with food, drinks and fun!

We will not celebrate high school graduation for another 4 years, but I know that will be a special time for our entire family. We don't usually regard this graduation as too big a deal, because there is still so much more preparation in life, and college is a part of it. To us, the completion of college is a moment of celebration to say - I am now ready to take on life!

When my sisters & I graduated from both high school & college, our parents always took us out for a special dinner. We went to a fancy restaurant and celebrated. Our grandparents always came with us, but since they were our only relatives, it was a more intimate party. It was always something to look forward to though.

As my oldest gets ready to graduate from high school, how to celebrate is at the top of my mind. It seems more important, because what we do will set the tradition for the rest of the kids. We have very few relatives in town so a big party doesn’t seem likely. It’s also a birthday weekend for 2 more of our kids, so at this point we plan to have a small dinner the night of graduation and leave the next day for a long weekend in La Jolla. And celebrate it all!!!

Graduations were not a big deal party-wise from college but worth a party from high school. But I think current trends of parties after KG and elementary and middle-school have diminished the big 12th year. I tried to focus on gifts for their life ahead (dorm supplies if going to college) or scrapbooks of school events.

I think high school graduation is the biggest chan ge of your life...except mayb
e marriage. You are beginning your life on your own, you move out from your p
arents, you have to start working, people c onstantly ask you what you want to d
o with your li fe, and if you are like me, you just don't know. I found it the
hardest transition. I would love t o come up with a significant gift, but I us
ually j ust give stuff for a dorm room. My parents gave m e a three week trip t
o Europe...I doubt I can fund that for my kids.

It was an exciting transition from HS to college, difficult, but I really took
to it. I do remember a lot of kids dropping out or barely getting thro ugh a y
ear. I don't think going to college should make or break you out in the world,
but I think t he world does! Still can't come up with a good gi ft idea!
